Titanium Machining for Structural Components
Possessing an excellent high strength to density ratio, Titanium is not only as strong as steel, but 40% lighter in weight. This refractory metal is exceptionally resistant to water and chemical corrosion, extreme temperatures, cavitation and wear; making it a critical structural component in the Aerospace and Military Defense industries.
Titanium’s biocompatibility (non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-reactive) and non-magnetic properties, have made it an ideal alloy for use in Medical Device and Surgical Implant industries.
Grade 1- Titanium CP4
The first of the commercially pure titanium grades, Grade 1 Titanium is both the softest and most ductile. Distinguishable for its superior formability and resistance to corrosion, this grade has high impact toughness and excellent welding and cold forming characteristics.
Utilization: Architecture, Automotive Desalination, Dimensional Stable Anodes, Medical, Marine, Processing & Chlorate Manufacturing.
Grade 2 - Titanium CP3
Widely available, Grade 2 Titanium has often been called the “workhorse” of the commercially pure titanium grades, and is slightly stronger than Grade 1, while otherwise sharing its beneficial strength, ductility, formability and corrosion resistant properties. This alloy grade is also known for its superior weldability and resistance to high oxidation.
Utilization: Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical Processing & Chlorate Manufacturing, Desalination, Architecture, Hydro Carbon Processing, Marine, Medical, Power Generation.
Grade 5 - Titanium 6AI-4V
Another “workhorse” of the Titanium alloys, this commonly used grade accounts for around 50% of worldwide annual usage. Similar in stiffness and ductility, although lower in thermal conductivity, Grade 5 Titanium is significantly stronger than the commercially pure titanium alloys. This grade can be heat treated for added strength, lends itself well to welding applications, and can withstand extreme heat and corrosion. Gaining popularity in the medical industry, Grade 5 Titanium is non-toxic, biocompatible, long-lasting, and provides greater elasticity and fracture-resistance.
Utilization: Aerospace, Chemical Processing, Marine, Medical.
