Aluminum Machining and Turning for Precisioned Components, Assemblies and Kits
At China Surgical Tools we are experienced with machining and turning nearly all grades of aluminum across a wide range of industries.
Aluminum is the go to material for a number of applications, with benefits that include shorter machining time, malleability, strength, ability to conduct electricity and resistance to chemicals and corrosive environments – making it an ideal low cost option when compared to other metals. Aluminum also accepts finishes well, such as chemical conversion coating, anodizing and powder coating, further improving a products longevity and appearance.
Aluminum allows manufacturers and designers to continually improve processes and create new and innovative products, without impacting safety or performance. Additionally, the utilization of Aluminum helps to promote the nation’s environmental goals and supports sustainable manufacturing due to its unlimited recyclability.
Some of the most commonly used grades of Aluminum and their industry applications include:
Aluminum 6061-T6
Highly versatile and heat-treatable, 6061 remains ones the most available and economic Aluminum alloys. This alloy is lightweight and easy to machine, weld and join, yet provides a high level of structural strength and toughness. 6061 Aluminum maintains good surface finish and corrosion resistance, especially in seawater and atmospheric conditions.
Utilization: Brake components, electrical fittings and connectors, wings and fuselages of aircrafts, fishing equipment, food and beverage packaging, couplings, valves, drive-shafts, camera lenses, marine fittings.
Aluminum 2024
This high strength alloy offers a great strength-to-weight ratio and provides excellent fatigue, stress corrosion and crack resistance. When in the annealed state, 7075 Aluminum is readily formed and has good machinability, allowing for accurate detailing of precision and critical tolerances. While it has a relatively low corrosion resistance, it can be machined to a high finish or anodized for additional protection.
Utilization: Aerospace, largely known for its common use in the aircraft industry. Other commercial applications include truck wheels, crew machine products, veterinary and orthopedic braces, scientific instruments, rivets, shear webs and ribs, wing tension members, and fuselage skins in commercial and military aircraft.
Aluminum 7075
One of the strongest Aluminum alloys available, 7075 Aluminum’s strength is comparable to that of many steel alloys, while remaining low density and lightweight. This alloy has superior strength-to-weight ratio, and provides for good stress corrosion and cracking resistance. Well suited for cold environments, 7075 Aluminum will increase in strength at sub-zero temperatures.
Utilization: Aircraft fittings, gears and shafts, fuse parts, meter shafts and gears, missile components, regulating valve parts, worm gears, other aerospace and aircraft parts, highly stressed structural parts.
